The Refuge de Bellachat is located in between the Aiguillette des Houches and the Brevent peak, right across of the Mont Blanc and overlooking the Chamonix valley. The refuge is situated at an altitude of 2,152 meters and can only be reached by foot. The panoramic views from the refuge are breathtaking, overlooking the Mont Blanc and the Bossons glacier. The refuge has a long history and has been completely rebuilt multiple times since 1920.


The refuge offers basic facilities including bunk beds, shared bathrooms, and basic meals. The refuge is open from June to September. Check the website of the refuge for bookings and operating dates and hours.


NOTE: In the summer of 2022 the Refuge ran out of its water source thereby limiting its sanitary facilities. Contact the refuge directly to make sure its open and providing accommodation.

Spectacular views on this one! The walk over the crest from Bellachat to Aiguillette des Houches is absolutely spectacular. Merlet makes for the easiest access without lifts.
