The Lac de Pormenaz is one of the larger mountain lakes around the Chamonix Valley. It is located at an altitude of 1945 meters at the northern end of the Montagne de Pormenaz. The lake is located on a jonction of a couple of trails. The main one is the trail that traverses across the Montagne de Pormenaz and climbs down the mountain on its south side towards Servoz. The trail to the north goes to the nearby Refuge Moede Anterne and the Col de Anterne. The trails leading west bring you to the 3 hamlets of Ayeres, Plaine Joux and Lac Vert. The lake itself is often surrounded by grazing sheep and its has a nice enbankment where you can relax for a bit or have a picnic.

We got a detailed trail profile for a long trail that runs from Le Buet train station to Servoz and traverses the Vallon de Berard and Passy natural reserves. This a wonderful trail in a very natural and unspoilt setting. We also got a loop trail from Servoz that visit the Montagne de Pormenaz and the lake before heading back to Servoz.
