Finhaut is a picturesque little village located near Lac Emosson across the border from France in Switzerland. Finhaut sits on a fairly steep slope with the main road going up to the Emosson Dam running straight through the town. The town is very touristic with a number of hotels, restaurants, bars and shops. Its vicinity to Lac Emosson ads a lot to its appeal. The Notre Dame de l'Assomption is the main church, sitting right in the heart of the town and it is definitely worth a visit. The most beautiful cave and waterfall in the area is the Grotte aux Nymphes and the Cascade aux Nymphes. The trail from Finhaut to the waterfall will be roughly 3km in length with a vertical gain of nearly 400 meters. It is quite a steep trail.
Although Finhaut is relatively far away from Chamonix, it is very easy to reach because of the train connection from Vallorcine. The Vallorcine station in turn is easilly reached from anywhere inside the Chamonix Valley using the train that runs from Saint-Gervais to Vallorcine. Finhaut and the climb up to Lac Emosson is furthermore a very popular road biking route for people staying in the Chamonix Valley.
