The Refuge de La Flégère is a fairly large mountain refuge located right next to the Flegere gondola near the Aiguilles Rouge nature reserve to the north of Chamonix. The refuge dates all the way back to 1827. It's located right across the valley from the Mer de Glace glacier and you got some really nice views of the Mont Blanc Massif and Les Drus. There is an outdoor terrace facing the view right in front of the refuge and there is a secondary seating area with an orientation table and a large wooden cross on the western side of the refuge. The natural appeal of the refuge is greatly reduced by the proximity to the mountain station of the Flegere gondola which towers over it. In winter the refuge operates as a restaurant. La Flegere is a very popular start point for many  of the most popular trails around Chamonix including those that visit Lac Blanc. The easiest way to visit Lac Blanc is to use the Index Chairlift and traverse over to Lac Blanc before heading back to Flegere. We got the full trail description here.
