The Refuge Lac Blanc is located right next the famous Lac Blanc. This is the lake that you will see in many of the most popular photos of Chamonix with the Mont Blanc Massif mirrored in its crystal clear waters. Its one of the most visited sights in Chamonix and many popular trails have the Lac Blanc as one of its main features.
The refuge is open in summer roughly from early June to the end of September. The website of Refuge Lac Blanc will indicate the opening for each year at the start of the year. The refuge has a dormitory with a capacity of 24 beds. You will need to bring your own sheet or liner. It will provide half board meaning dinner and breakfast. They dont have drinking water but sell bottled water and guests are expected to bring their own trash down with them. Last I checked they do no allow kids below 8 years old. There is no wifi at the refuge.
Visiting the refuge and Lac Blanc can be done in a number of ways. If you want to use the lifts then your first option is to take the Flegere gondola and walk up to the lake. An easier option is to take the Index chair lift after taking the Flegere lift and then traverse to the lake. This will involve a lot less climbing. We have a detailed trail description for the option from the Index lift. If you want to climb up all the way from the Chamonix Valley floor then there are multiple approaches you can take from Chamonix, Les Praz, Argentiere and Tre-le-Champ. We got a nice long trail starting at the Col des Montets and visiting Lac Blanc, Lac Cornu and the Lacs Noirs.
