Summits and Cols around the Chamonix Valley
On this page we are highlighting summits and mountain passes (Cols in French), in and around the Chamonix Valley. All of these will have really great views and be some of the main features of the trails that visit them. All of them are at considerable altitude so you will definitely have to check trail conditions to assure the trails are accessible and snow free. You might wonder why Mont Blanc is not on this list and the reason for that is simple. Our website focuses on hiking and trail running and an ascend to the top of Mont Blanc would definitely fall outside that category and be better suited for a mountaineering website.
Out of all the summits and mountain passes that we feature here there are a couple we want to highlight. The tallest of them all would be the summit of Mont Buet, which will have you reaching an altitude of 3096m. This is a pretty spectacular summit with amazing views in all directions. Outside of Chamonix there is the Pointe Percee, the highest peak in the Chaine des Aravis. The views from Pointe Percee go very far in all directions. Within the Chamonix Valley, our favorite is the Aiguillette des Houches and the crest trail leading to the Aiguillette de Brevent. The views towards Mont Blanc from here are arguable the best ones in Chamonix.
